The best email marketing and lifecycle messaging software
Tools that hold a subscriber list, send broadcast and automated email against it, and report what happened. The category spans simple newsletter senders through to lifecycle platforms that branch on behaviour.
What has to be true to appear here
- Owns the subscriber list and the sending, rather than being a template editor that hands off to somebody else
- Automated sequences that branch on subscriber behaviour, not just one-off broadcasts
- Self-serve signup and published pricing, or pricing we could obtain and snapshot
- A documented export of subscribers and their engagement history
Inclusion is not for sale, and neither is order. Nine of the products we cover have no affiliate programme at all.
No test rubric published yet
This category is open because people have listed in it, not because we have started testing it. Nothing here carries a Crash Test score, and the order below is alphabetical rather than ranked.
When we do write the rubric we will publish the scenarios and the weights here first, before a single product in this category goes on the bench.

Real questions
What buyers actually ask
Why is nothing ranked in this category?
Because we have not tested anything in it yet. Ranking without a published rubric would be a number with nothing behind it, so the list is alphabetical and says so. It stays that way until a bench exists and products have been through it.
How is pricing usually structured here?
Almost always by contact count rather than by seat, which makes list hygiene a pricing decision as much as a deliverability one. Our pricing receipts record the bands each vendor publishes, so the step you are about to cross is visible before you cross it.
Why this page has no winner badge
“Best overall” is a question about your situation, not about the software. The table gives you a tested score, a real price at your team size, and a one-line statement of who each product is wrong for. The last of those is usually the one that decides it.
Found something out of date?
Pricing moves constantly in this category and we miss things. Send a correction with a dated link and it goes in the public log, with your handle on it if you want it there.
