The Crew

Review the software you use, and vote on it.

You are here to judge the software. Buyers, operators and anyone who has used this stuff in anger. Free, and always will be.

A Crew account

What it does, and what it never does

What a Crew member does

  • Recommend the products you would stand behind, one each, counted in public
  • Write reviews of the products you use, published after automatic checks and a hold
  • Report a listing or review that is spam, misleading or abusive
  • A copy of everything we hold about you, and deletion, from your account page
  • Vote in the Crash Cup, one vote per tie, once your account has been open 3 days

What a Crew member never does

  • List a product. That is a Garage's job: a Crew login can help run one Garage's page, and is then refused any vote, review or rating of that Garage's products.
  • Review a product while signed in at that company's own domain. The check is automatic.
  • Buy influence, or have it granted by us

Reviews and votes

Checked before they count

The rules are published in full, so anyone can hold us to them.

How a review is checked

Each review carries its verification tier on the card, so a reader sees how much proof sits behind it. The automatic checks, the hold before a review publishes, and how reports are decided are set out on one page.

How we verify reviews

How a Crash Cup vote counts

The Crash Cup is a knockout of up to 32 listings, decided by Crew votes, one per member per tie. It measures which product people prefer head to head, not whether the software works, and a vote never touches a score.

The Crash Cup and its rules

One person, two logins

A Garage never votes and never reviews, including on its own competitors, because an account that can both sell and score is the thing this site exists not to be. One person can hold both, as two logins, or help run one Garage from their Crew login. A Crew login on a Garage's team is refused, by the database, any vote, review or rating of that Garage's products, and our contributor terms forbid reviewing a product you have a stake in either way. The same login cannot recommend a product that competes with that Garage in one of its categories, or vote in a Crash Cup tie with one in it, and any review or comment it writes about one is labelled with the person's role at the Garage.

Questions

Questions about the Crew

Is the Crew free?

A Crew account is free, and always will be. It is for buyers, operators and anyone who has used the software they want to judge.

What can a Crew member do?

As a Crew member you can recommend the products you would stand behind, one each, counted in public; write reviews of the products you use, published after automatic checks and a hold; and report a listing or review that is spam, misleading or abusive. You can also vote in the Crash Cup, one vote per tie, once a season is drawn.

How are reviews checked before they publish?

Every review goes through automatic checks when it is submitted, and one written while signed in at the product's own domain is refused. It then waits in a hold before it publishes; after that any Crew member can report it, and a member of staff restores or removes each hidden or reported review.

Can a company pay to change or remove a review?

No company can pay to change or remove a review. A Garage, the account a company lists from, cannot write a review, leave a helpful vote, or ask anyone to remove one, and no paid listing buys a Crew review, a rating, or any influence on one.

How does voting in the Crash Cup work?

Only Crew members vote in the Crash Cup, once per tie, and a Crew account votes once it has been open 3 days. Voting opens only after a season's entries close and its draw is made. A vote never touches a Crash Test score or a place on the Launch500 list.

Who cannot review a product?

Nobody can review a product while signed in at that company's own domain, and the check is automatic. A Garage never reviews. A Crew login on a Garage's team is refused, by the database, any vote, review or rating of that Garage's products, and our contributor terms forbid reviewing a product you have a stake in either way.
